“Wait A Minute, You Guys Aren’t The Real Avengers! I Can Tell. Hulk Gives It Away.” It was a delight to have the new Spider-Man introduce himself in his own movie trailer with a line you can go over and over again. I love that about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and how he was played in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As in his comic books, Spider-Man is a fifteen-year-old teenager. So the MCU’s portrayal of Spider-Man as a teenager is the closest we have to an accurate Spider-Man portrayal so far. Tom Holland was 19 years old when he was cast for the role of a teenager bitten by “Radio Active Spider”. For comparison against the previous portrayals, Tobey Maguire was 27, when his Spider-Man movie came out. Andrew Garfield was 29, during The Amazing Spider-Man.

No doubt Tobey and Andrew, both are amazing actors, the all-time favorite for a lot of people, and our wonderful neighborhood Spider-Men, but it’s still somewhat nonrelatable to watch a 6 feet man in his 20’s playing the role of a high-school kid & a Superhero and asking for permission from his Aunt May acting as a Teenager. However, MCU took a fresh take and brought Tom Holland, who wooed the ever-growing Marvel fan base with his acting chops. This amazing British actor portrays the hoodie-wearing web-slinging high school hero with perfection.

MCU not only “Fountain of Youth”ed Spider-Man, But also brought forward a new Aunt May who is surprise surprise Not OLD. Aunt May has always been depicted as an older lady, taking care of young Peter Parker in the comics. All her previous movie incarnations have also been kept in a similar let’s say “Age window”. For MCU’s incarnation, however, I think it was a good decision to depict Aunt May with a relative age to Tom Holland’s Spider-man.

When bringing Spider-Man to MCU for Captain America: Civil War, Marvel not only acquired Spider-Man’s character but also gave a few new character details to other relevant characters as well.

In the words of the co-screenwriter of Captain America: Civil War Stephen McFeely – “We were all in lockstep pretty early on to make him as naturalistic as possible, In addition to being as young as possible. So what is it really like for a 15-year-old kid? Where does he live in Queens? That’s partly why his aunt isn’t 80 years old; if she’s the sister of his dead mother, why does she have to be two generations ahead?”

Those eyes definitely gave us something to look forward to.

According to Joe Russo, the Spider Man suit that Tom Holland wore is inspired by the earliest designs of the character by the legendary comic book artist Steve Ditko, best known as the artist and co-creator of a lot of the Marvel Comics superheroes like Spider-Man and Doctor Strange along with Stan Lee. Stan Lee created the character of spiderman with help of Steve Ditko.

When asked about the Spiderman suit, Ditko recalled that “One of the first things I did was to work up a costume. A vital, visual part of the character. I had to know how he looked … before I did any breakdowns. For example, A clinging power so he wouldn’t have hard shoes or boots, a hidden wrist-shooter versus a web gun and holster, etc. … I wasn’t sure Stan would like the idea of covering the character’s face but I did it because it hid an obviously boyish face. It would also add mystery to the character.”[wiki]
