Turmeric is a commonly used spice in the kitchen, but is turmeric good for you and your health conditions?

Turmeric, a golden spice is known to be the healing herb in India for thousands of years. The Curcumin compound in turmeric is that star compound among all curcuminoids. This yellow color spice has various antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric is employed in many home remedies to spice up the immunity of our body. My mother applies turmeric – mustard oil paste over cuts and burns to heal the affected area fast in my childhood.

Nowadays, turmeric is well -known for its medicinal properties within the world. Is it really beneficial?

  1. Curcumin in turmeric is useful in depression, anxiety disorders, and cognitive problems because of its boosting BDNF levels (brain-derived neurotrophic factor). This golden superfood can manage the mood.
  2. Turmeric is an efficient spice in patients with heart problems as it seems to improve vascular endothelial function.
  3. Due to its antioxidant properties, it helps to prevent cancer. Studies show that turmeric is worthwhile for fighting free radicals. It can boost antioxidants enzymes within our body.
  4. Turmeric has the ability to help persons with symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.
  5. In winter, turmeric is the best readily available herb to fight common cold and flu infections.
  6. Turmeric paste is an efficacious home remedy for Eczema, skin allergies. In India, it is a must to do a ritual (Haldi ceremony ) to apply turmeric paste over the bride and bridegroom’s face for radiant and healthy skin.

Side effects of turmeric.

  1. Upset stomach – sometimes, Turmeric can upset the stomach and irritate the stomach lining. People who take excessive turmeric doses can experience acid reflux, burning sensation, nausea, and diarrhea.
  2. Stimulate contractions – As we know, turmeric can ease PMS symptoms as it relaxes the uterus. Because of its blood-thinning effects, turmeric supplements are not suitable for pregnant women
  3. Adulterated Commerical turmeric – the majority of turmeric we found in the market is usually not pure. Try to buy raw turmeric and makes turmeric powder at your home.

Turmeric tea is straightforward to create and quick recipe to make a quick recipe that will help winters.

Recipe for turmeric tea

  • Take grated root turmeric or turmeric powder as per your availability.
  • Boil 2 cups of water.
  • Lower the heat, now add 1 teaspoon of turmeric.
  • Add a pinch of freshly grated black pepper. Black pepper has piperine, which is required for the absorption of curcumin.
  • Add grated ginger to the mixture.
  • Now strain all the mixture in clean cups.
  • Now mix honey or sugar according to your taste in tea.
  • Enjoy your cup of warm turmeric tea.
